If you’ve ever suffered from back pain, and statistically, this is highly likely, you’ll know how awful it is. Back pain can leave even the biggest and most active of individuals, virtually bedridden, and barely able to function. Back pain can be anything from uncomfortable, to excruciatingly painful, so knowing how to deal with it is vital. When the majority of people suffer from back pain, they will take painkilling medicines and tablets. All these medications do, however, is mask the problem, they don’t treat or prevent the problem. Not only that, but these painkillers can be harmful to you, and cause some unpleasant side effects in the process. Here are some natural ways of ridding yourself of back pain, without using pills and medicines.
Do moderate exercise – When people experience back pain, they often make the mistake of lying down on a bed or sofa hoping that the injury will heal itself. With back pain, however, this is one of the worst things you can do. Instead, experts recommend that you engage in some moderate physical activity. Go for a walk or perform some gentle stretches, and you’ll be amazed by the difference it makes. Obviously, you shouldn’t go overboard, but being immobile is one of the worst things you can when suffering from pain in the back.
Control your weight – If you are overweight, to help your back, and other parts of your body for that matter, it is recommended that you lose weight and get down to a healthy weight. Being overweight places a lot of strain on your lower back, especially when you sit down, and this could be the cause of your pain. By getting to a healthy weight, your back will be stress-free.
Visit the chiropractor – The discs in your spine are like jelly doughnuts that cushion the vertebrae. These discs are prone to break down or can tear as we age, causing them to leak some of the insides of the jelly doughnut, so they are no longer providing the proper cushioning needed. When the jelly-like inside leaks out, it can hit a nerve and thus cause significant pain. Spinal manipulation is a safe and effective back pain treatment.
Get a massage – Massage helps relieve tension, it boosts circulation and oxygen transportation, it breaks down hardened scar tissue, and it contributes to relaxing tense and stiff muscles. When combined with Chiropractic Care, the patient’s outcome dramatically improves.
Hot and cold therapy – If your back pain is bothering you, you can try hot and cold treatment at home. Just apply an ice pack to the affected area for a maximum of 15 minutes, and then instantly switch the cold to a hot pack. The cold reduces painful inflammation and swelling, whereas the hot helps to relieve tense muscles, muscle spasms, and muscle cramps.
